Gnerlich Joins LSU Health New Orleans Faculty

Jennifer Gnerlich, MD, has joined the faculty of LSU Health New Orleans School of Medicine as an assistant professor of clinical surgery. Dr. Gnerlich is a board certified surgical oncologist specializing in upper GI cancers including those of the pancreas, liver, stomach and esophagus. She treats patients at LSU Healthcare Network, University Medical Center and Touro Infirmary.

Following graduation from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, Gnerlich completed her General Surgery Residency at Washington University in St. Louis Barnes-Jewish Hospital. Halfway through her residency training, she took a hiatus from the clinical arena to pursue two years of basic science research in the field of tumor immunology with pancreatic cancer and also performed clinical research in Stage IV breast cancer. After completing her General Surgery Residency, she was accepted into the University of Chicago's Surgical Oncology Fellowship. She was awarded the Society of Surgical Oncology's Annual Resident/Fellow Essay Award for Best Basic Science/Translational Research Paper in 2013 for her manuscript on peritumoral adipokines in breast cancer. Her research interest is in Stage IV disease. She has authored 16 papers and 3 book chapters.
